Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I have to make art? No! Not everyone is a good fit for art therapy. I am licensed to provide traditional talk therapy, as well. We may even ebb and flow between art therapy and talk therapy.

2. How long will I be in therapy? It depends (everyone’s favorite answer)! Typically, short term therapy is more skills focused or needing support within the context of a specific transition. For others, long-term therapy makes more sense to have ongoing feedback to increase mastery of the changes you are making or if you are looking to explore more deeply about yourself.

3. How often will we meet? This will be a decision we will make together at intake. I generally suggest starting at weekly to be able to establish our work together. It is possible to start at every-other-week, knowing it is a different pace. It’s common to decrease session frequency over time as you feel more empowered to navigate life independently.

4. Are you virtual or in person? Both! We will choose one as “default” and you have the option to change each week based off your needs. Meeting virtually does allow me to meet with anyone within the state of Oregon.

5. Have you worked with someone with my diagnosis before? Most likely. As important as diagnoses can be, I get more curious about how that diagnosis is specifically showing up for you. I have the most experience with diagnoses of PTSD, General Anxiety, Major Depression, Social Anxiety, Borderline Personality, and ADHD.

6. What makes therapy successful? The relationship! Research has shown this time and time again. Despite modality or style of therapist, the relationship you and your therapist have is what makes the largest impact. It can take time to develop this and build trust, and ultimately, you want to feel your therapist is understanding you and you can hear your therapist’s feedback. I show up very “human” in the room with you. I am not a therapist who is stoic.

7. Do you take insurance? I am not in network with any insurance at this time. Not going through insurance does provide you the most privacy to your care. You can pay with your HSA/FSA card. You can also call your insurance and ask if they will provide you reimbursement with a superbill. Make sure to ask if there is a deductible that needs to be met first and what their reimbursement rate is per session or if you are responsible for a copay. You will also need a diagnosis for insurance reimbursement, which we will discuss first before any diagnosis is added.

8. What is your availability/schedule? I currently work Monday through Thursday. My working hours each day are flexible and vary. Please inquire if there is a specific time you are needing.
